Donald Trump has joined his wife Melania in commemorating the passing of her mother, Amalija Knavs, at a private funeral held in Florida. The former first lady had shared the news of her mother’s demise at the age of 78 earlier this month.
To pay his respects at the funeral, Mr. Trump opted to miss a court session in his New York defamation trial, as the judge denied a one-day postponement. “In her presence, the world appeared to glisten with brightness and happiness,” remarked Ms. Trump in a touching eulogy, emphasizing the unbreakable nature of their bond.
In 2018, Amalija Knavs and her husband, Viktor, obtained US citizenship after residing in the country on green cards sponsored by their daughter. Their immigration journey utilized the family reunification visa process, a term criticized by then-President Donald Trump as “chain migration” that he advocated for eliminating.
Amalija had previously worked at a textile factory in the Slovenian town of Sevnica, while Viktor pursued a career as a car salesman. Mrs. Trump attended high school in the capital, Ljubljana, located approximately an hour’s drive away.
Her path intersected with Donald Trump in 1998 during her career as a model. In 2006, the couple welcomed a son named Barron, coinciding with her attainment of US citizenship that same year.
