How to Delete Pre Installed Apps on Your Android Smartphone

Pre-installed apps, or “bloatware”, can clutter your phone, consume storage, and drain battery life. While not all can be completely removed, knowing your options empowers you to optimize your device and keep it running smoothly.

Understanding Pre-installed Apps

Before we dive into the deletion process, let’s clarify the different kinds of pre-installed apps:

  • System Apps: These apps are integral to the core functionality of your Android operating system. They include apps like your phone dialer, settings, and messaging.
  • Completely removing these is generally not advisable as it can disrupt your phone’s operation.
  • Carrier/Manufacturer Apps: Phone carriers and manufacturers often add their own suite of apps.
  1. Uninstall through Settings:
  • Open Settings > Apps (or Apps & notifications).
  • Find the app you want to remove.
  • Tap on the app and select Uninstall (if available). Confirm if prompted.
  • Note: This may only uninstall updates for system apps, not the app itself.

2. Uninstall through Play Store:

  • Open the Play Store.
  • Tap your profile picture or the menu icon and select My apps & games.
  • Choose Manage or Installed.
  • Find the app and tap Uninstall. Confirm if prompted.
  • Note: Similar to Settings, this might not work for system apps

Disable Apps:

  • If uninstalling isn’t possible, try disabling the app.
  • Follow steps 1 & 2 from “Uninstall through Settings”.
  • Instead of Uninstall, tap Disable. Confirm if prompted.
  • This hides the app and prevents it from running in the background.
  1. ADB (Advanced Users Only):
    • ADB (Android Debug Bridge) allows deeper access, but requires technical knowledge and potential risks.
    • Proceed with caution and research the process thoroughly before attempting.
  • Important Considerations:
  • Not all apps can be uninstalled or disabled. System-critical apps are essential for your phone’s functionality and cannot be removed.
  • Disabling might not free up as much storage as uninstalling, but it prevents the app from using resources.
  • Be cautious when using third-party tools for uninstalling apps, as they might remove essential system components.
  • Remember:
  • Only remove apps you’re sure you don’t need. Uninstalling essential apps can lead to unexpected issues.
  • Regularly review your apps and remove unused ones to maintain optimal performance.
  • By understanding these methods and exercising caution, you can effectively manage pre-installed apps and reclaim valuable storage space on your Android smartphone.tunesharemore_vert
